from cloth to grass
It is said that there would be ‘no wimbledon without Stroud’ what with the tennis ball fabric being produced there and the invention of the lawnmower in times past !
‘The lawn mower was invented in 1830 by Edwin Beard Budding, an engineer from Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. He obtained the idea after seeing a machine in a local cloth mill which used a cutting cylinder (or bladed reel) mounted on a bench to trim cloth to make a smooth finish after weaving. Budding realised that a similar concept would enable the cutting of grass if the mechanism could be mounted in a wheeled frame to make the blades rotate close to the lawn’s surface. ”
If lawnmowers are your thing theres even a museum of lawnmowers in Merseyside the website even has a wee country style song about the invention of the lawnmower .

text relating to Stroud/tennis or even a lawnmower . . . a loom . . other possible images/patterns . . .?
the comment of ‘no Wimbledon without Stroud’ seems to emphasise the fact we can’t seem to get away from the concept of 2 - 2 parties to trade, at least 2 players for tennis, 2 weavers of the original loom, 2 parts that make the tennis ball . . .hmm
